Design Build Measure package 4 — Differential and common-mode signals in amplifiers

1. Introduction

Gain experience with differential and common-mode signal quantities and measurements — converting between them and A, B node voltage “coordinate systems.”

Goals
  • Gain experience converting between differential and single-ended quantities.

  • Practice simulation and physical methods of applying pure differential or pure common-mode signals to amplifier circuits.

Objectives
  • Build differential pair circuits with different tail current circuits.

  • lab4 analysis, simulation, and measurements

2. Elements

  • Documentation of the components used for the Figure 5 schematic as-built.

  • Hand analysis for the work summarized in Table 1.

  • Measured DC values as summarized in Table 1.


  • Description of the process used to measure the 3 small-signal common-mode voltage gains requested in item 2 of Section 4. Amplifier measurements, including the results themselves.

  • Results of the work from steps 4 and 5.

  • Hand calculations and the results from the values requested in step 6.


3. Submission

This documentation should be organized by interleaving text, figures, photographs, schematics, and mathematical calculations. The reader must be able to read what is submitted without being forced to refer back to the Lab 4 page side-by-side to understand what is going on.
